Introduction.

Herophilus (335-280 BC) was a Greek physician and the first to systematically perform scientific dissections of human cadavers. I myself spend a little time in similar pursuits, somewhat systematically criticizing (if not dissecting) the living people. Like Herophilus, I strive for a better understanding of homo sapiens. Surely much more of our species must be known if we are to make great strides in achieving advancements in health, freedom, harmony, and more successful pursuits of happiness. Lifestyle Artistry

Herophilus, in my opinion, was a bit of an artist in his own right. Plus, I think we can all choose to be an artist in some way or another. After all, what is an artist except someone who creates what others find wonderful, beautiful, inspiring, dignified, good, and/or satisfying? Perhaps not everyone will think that – not everyone lives Dali, Mozart, or anyone else – there is no arguing about tastes. If the individual is proud of and fulfilled by his work, that is artistry. Then let’s broaden the definition of art to include a life well-lived. and  Lifestyle Artistry.

Cultures are a bit stingy about who gets to see themselves as an artist. Enough of that. Let’s encourage wellness seekers to present their pursuits as art forms – and hope this encourages actions that are compliant with the role. The benefits of choosing and maintaining REAL wellness lifestyles are compelling.

While generalizations are dangerous, including the ones I’m about to offer, they can be helpful—if not too far off the mark. I think the following generalizations about art and artists come close enough to be reliable of  Lifestyle Artistry.

Artists are proud of their work. They see themselves as special.
Most artists have a self-concept that they are gifted, privileged, and maybe even chosen by fate – or at least favored by random chance.

Many artists expect their output to last longer. Longfellow put it this way: Art is long and time is fleeting. Artists tend to cultivate and protect their talent, whatever it is.
Our own health and quality of life are at least as valuable to us as any painting,
sculpture, pot, blown glass, song, play, or material object, however ancient, precious, or exquisite such treasures may be. This seems to be true even when we know that few others would stand in long lines to stare at us in a stylish museum filled with other treasures.

Along with Herophilus, let’s dwell on the fact that art cannot be fully appreciated or enjoyed amid pain, fear of untimely death, or other forms of diminished mindfulness. Let’s also dwell on the fact that art does not arise from acts performed haphazardly.

 

As with art expressed in material objects by recognized artists of the traditional kind, the art of living well lived requires a conscious awareness that the art form chosen is precious, fragile, and unfit for transfer to others. Unfortunately, most people do just that with their lifestyle – over-delegating to medical professionals, drugs, counselors, and others. The results are usually neither art nor health.

It is better to insist on mastering, as long as it is possible, as master craftsmen for the work of well-being.to  Lifestyle Artistry.
In short, know that the material at our disposal is time, body, and mind. Our works and designs are REAL wellness lifestyles. Delegating will not work, a reality long ago expressed in the Yiddish proverb: If the rich could hire other people to die for them, the poor could live wonderful lives.

Are there any conditions for lifestyle artistic and if so, which ones? There is no. Cogito ergo sums or something like that – you are, therefore you can be – such an artist.
The best lifestyle artists are all those who see themselves as such and thus act
consistently from this motivational self-image.
